1st Class Menu of Work 8\6\2020- 12\6\2020

Hi everyone, I hope you all had a great week.

Below is a suggested list of work for the following week 08/06/2020 – 12/06/2020. Remember as always just complete what you can. It was great to hear from so many people again this week and thank you to those who send on some of the fantastic work completed last week. Well done on all the great work you have completed so far. I hope you all have a lovely weekend and keep up the great work.

Like last week I have put up a grid with the work for each day and then here I have added the logins to the individual sites with some extra details too.

Maths

I will attach a sheet to the blog of activities you can practice at home to reinforce all the content covered this week on subtraction and time.

This week we will be covering two topics subtraction and time.

Monday and Tuesday the children will be learning about subtraction of a one-digit and two-digit number from a two-digit number.

Wednesday/Thursday/ Friday the children will be learning about time: the clock in one-hour and half-hour intervals as well as the months of the year and the four seasons.

Monday:

p. 155: deals with the subtraction of a one-digit number from a two-digit number without renaming within 99.

Tuesday:

P. 156: Deals with subtraction of tens within 99.

P. 157: Deals with the subtraction of a two-digit number from a two-digit number without renaming within 99

Wednesday:

P. 158: Asks the children to write the times or draw hands on the clock faces that are either 1 hour earlier or 1 hour later or ½ hour earlier or ½ hour later than a specified time.

Thursday:

P. 159: Has a television guide where the children are asked to identify programmes that occur at particular times in hours and half-hours.

Friday:

p.160: Deals with the months and seasons of the year.

p.161: Deals with the month of March on a regular calendar.

SESE

This week we will study Energy and Forces. The children will learn about temperature and sound this week.

Monday:

Read p. 94 & 95- Today the children will learn about temperature.

Do written activities p. 95. If you have access to a printer, you can print off the page or alternatively you can write out the sentences in your copy

Read p. 22 & 23- Today you will talk about sounds the children hear in their environment. Discuss the sounds on p.22.

Go on a sound walk outside – draw some pictures of the things you hear while you are outside.

Draw 3 pictures of things that make a loud sound and 3 pictures of thigs that make a soft sound.

Today the children could try and make a Rainstick Musical Instrument using items found at home. Link to instructions above.

SPHE (Thursday)

We will discuss water safety in SPHE again this week.

Activity 2: Design a water safety poster. (Link above or simply use a sheet of blank paper- you could send me your water safety poster today).

Again like last week you can access the following to complete further activities: Water safety Ireland has created a free educational resource for primary schools called PAWS (Primary Aquatics Water Safety). It teaches children how to be safe around water in homes, farms, pools beaches and on our waterways.

This week I would like you to read the poem called “Summer Morning”. I would like you to make a drawing of a picture or an image you have in your head after reading this poem.

English in Practice (Grammar): (Continue with a column daily if you have previously accessed the viewing copy of this book online; “English in practice 1st Class” on the Prim- Ed website. You could read out the 10 questions to the children and children could write the answers in your copy
