This week we have been learning about the AFL/Australian football league. We created a shadow affect with an AFL ball focusing on creating a dark and light affect with paint.
Here are some fun facts about the AFL:
AFL stands for Australian Football League.
The AFL match is 80 minutes.
The game is split into 4 quarters.
The pitch is an oval shape.
The Victorian football league was founded in 1877.
There are 11 players on the pitch.
Sean Wight and Jim Stynes were the first Irish players to play.
The 1950s saw the growth of TV broadcasting in Australia.
The women’s football league was founded in2017.
The women’s team has their own name - the AFLW.
The average number of fans is 35,000 for each home game.
Each team plays 22 games per season.
Many Irish men moved to Australia, they became known as the Galahs.
Many football players joined World War 1.
18 teams are in the AFL league.
