Third Class explored the life and work of Tim Burton before creating self-portraits inspired by his imaginative style. We focused on line and shape, exploring how changing facial features can turn a familiar face into an unusual character. A Cubist Halloween: Inspired by Picasso Third Class looked to a Halloween theme to produce artwork inspired by Pablo Picasso and Cubism. The children explored how the Cubist artist used shapes and different viewpoints to represent subjects in unusual ways. They then drew on these ideas to create their own Halloween artwork. Well done to all the children for their imagination, effort and willingness to try something different. They should be very proud of their spooky creation

To celebrate Dot Day, Third Class took on an imaginative art challenge: “If not a dot, then what?” Starting with simple circles, the children transformed them into pictures by adding colour, lines and details. Our display features everything from animals and smiling faces to planets, sports balls, fruit and imaginative characters. The variety shows how one starting shape can spark so many different ideas. Third Class explored line in art through our Loopy Line Rollercoasters lesson. The children began with a continuous line, creating hills, curves and loops before adding tracks, supports, colour and their own imaginative details. The activity brought art and maths together as we explored parallel and intersecting lines. Designing the rollercoasters helped the children develop pencil control, spatial awareness and planning skills, while giving them the freedom to express their

Third Class has been getting creative with self portraits, name art and acrostic poems. We drew ourselves and added pictures of things that matter to us. We also turned the letters of our names into colourful artwork. For our acrostic poems, we used each letter of our names to begin a line about ourselves. Our display is full of different faces, interests and ideas. It is a lovely way to get to know the people in our class!

Third Class has been learning about myths and legends through the Irish story The Children of Lir. We talked about the characters and the magical part of the story, then practised retelling it in our own words. The story inspired our art display. We painted paper plates to make the water and sky, added colourful shapes, and created swans with soft cotton feathers. Each pupil made their own version of the scene. Our corridor is full of colourful hot air balloons! We made our artwork to celebrate the Irish Hot Air Balloon Championships at Lough Key Forest Park in Boyle.During the championships, balloon pilots and their crews come together for a week of flying challenges. The event has a special connection to Boyle: the championships first came here 50 years ago, in 1976. Well done to all the boys and girls of Rockfield who took part in some fun races at our end of year sports day. Everyone had such fun at the egg and spoon race, the three legged race, the sack race and the wheelbarrow race. Here are some picture of the winners of the running races.
